The creators even stated that they never intended it to be seen as a kids movie (it was marketed as such by Disney who were only the distributors). I think the movie is very good but it's simply not appropriate for children. I saw this movie when I was 14 and I loved it. Besides what I mentioned above, this is a really high quality movie that should be watched by coming-of-age teens. If Disney had major input, these scenes would not be in the movie in the first place to follow with their internal policies, but they did not and the studio added more anti-materialist scenes and music to make its target demographic think about the practical value of their old appliences. It also has traumatizing scenes of Toaster having nightmares about attempted murdur from a firefighter clown and metaphors of genocide with the "Worthless" scene. The movie starts cute enough, but it takes darker turns with the air conditioner ranting about the appliances conspiring to steal attention from "the master" along with sexual innuendos. According to Wikipedia: "arthouse film distributor Skouras Pictures took on the distributing rights for the theatrical release, and was going to do evening screenings, noting it was more for college and young adults than kids". It was a independently made film distributed by Disney in North America. Parents, please don't let the Disney logo throw you off.
